Au cours des dernières décennies, alors que la culture hip-hop a gagné en influence et en impact populaires, elle a de plus en plus été reprise à la fois comme sujet d’étude et comme point d’intérêt dans les institutions éducatives et culturelles du monde entier. Son acceptation dans les domaines académiques et officiels a conduit à un discours populaire suggérant que la culture hip-hop a été “légitimée” – pour le meilleur et pour le pire.
En collaboration avec La Place et the ERC funded project Cipher: Hiphop Interpellation, cette conférence s’inspirera de l’album Panthéon du rappeur français Booba en 2004, qui élabore des liens entre la révérence, la fierté nationale, la légitimité culturelle et le célèbre mausolée réservé aux “grands hommes”. Ce colloque cherche à explorer le rôle des institutions dans la légitimation du hip-hop. À travers des présentations, des ateliers et des sessions à micro ouvert, cette conférence explorera des réflexions sur la relation entre les voies de connaissance ancrées dans les pratiques culturelles et artistiques du hip-hop et celles qui découlent des efforts institutionnels pour transmettre l’histoire et l’esthétique du hip-hop.
